Ultimate Team

Getting started in Madden 18 Ultimate Team? Unless you want to just buy your team with Madden points, you are going to have to put in some work to get a decent team. These tips will help you power up your team in just a matter of hours.

If you haven’t bought Madden 18 yet and want a head start, the Madden 18 G.O.A.T. edition has some extra ultimate team items to give you an edge. Here’s whats included:

Amazon Prime/Twitch Legends

If you are an Amazon Prime subscriber you can collect some loot by simply linking your Amazon Prime account with your Twitch account and then linking that account with EA. It should be a simple process but for me it wasn’t so easy. Jumping through these hoops will give you Twitch Legends cards. The two currently available are an 85 OVR Reggie White and an 83 OVR Rodney Harrison. Likely much better than anything you got in your starter packs or squad packs from the GOAT edition. New Twitch Legends cards will be announced on a live stream each Friday.

Twitch Legends

Here’s what to do in order to link your accounts:

  1. Go here to activate Twitch Prime on your Amazon Prime account (you must be signed in to Amazon). Twitch Prime is included in your Amazon Prime services.
  2. Once that is done, go here, in order to link your Twitch Prime account with EA (you have to sign-in to EA to complete the process)
  3. If that all went well, you may or may not have the items show up when you log-in to the Ultimate Team server in the game. The official instructions say you must complete the Ultimate Team tutorial in game before they show up.
  4. I had to go back to this page to get the Rodney Harrison card after it dropped on Friday. I clicked on the link to connect my account with EA again and then the card showed up on the game.

Madden Ultimate Team Rewards

While you are signing up for things, you might as well join Madden Ultimate Team Rewards here. The more packs you open the higher your loyalty status level. Simply signing up and playing Ultimate Team gets you potential free stuff – and not just Madden items!

In the past Madden Rewards members have received packs, coins, NFL Tickets, Memorabilia, New Consoles and even more. Make sure your account information is up to date so you can be eligible for all the great things this Madden Rewards Season.

Some Madden Rewards members have also received the next years’ copy of Madden early.

Complete Solo Challenges

Madden 18 Solo Challenges

Don’t mind my low coin balance, I’m on welfare

The solo challenges are a bit of a grind but can give you some decent stuff along the way. Once again, it’s easier to just buy your way with Madden points but even if you do spend the cash, completing solo challenges is required if you want to complete the MUT Master objective.

Note: If the 20 Days of GOATs challenges are still available when you are reading this, make sure you do those! Even if you don’t want to use the “baby GOAT” cards in your line-up, they can be turned in for an elite GOAT card or to upgrade the GOAT you choose with your GOAT edition.

The Kickoff Challenge

I recommend starting with the Kickoff Challenge. This will get you a 70 OVR Julio Jones card, a 76 OVR Rob Gronkowski, and an 80 OVR Champ Bailey power-up card you can then increase to an 81 OVR. None of these cards will be long-term solutions but will helps you get a solid base of gold tiered cards .

Semi-Pro Tip: Pay attention to the game type in the upper left-hand corner. On Arcade, you can land more hit stick fumbles and just throwing it deep to your WR has a good success rate

The Gauntlet

After the kickoff, move on to The Gauntlet. These challenges are a bit quicker to complete than the NFL Journey. Challenges like “rush for 10 yards in three plays” and then you are done. Piece of cake.

Not only do you get cards but you get coins along the way. Eventually you will hit a brick wall with challenge #24 that makes you kick a 45 yard field goal. This is basically impossible to do with your Bronze level Dan Carpenter card you start with – even with the wind at your back! Kickers tend to be very rare which is why they are so costly to buy at the auction house. I would wait to see if you get lucky in a pack or if you have a friend with a decent kicker, ask him to borrow him to complete the challenge.

NFL Journey

If you get stuck on The Gauntlet because you can’t kick a field goal, then it’s time to move on to the NFL Journey. Most of these challenges require you to play at least a couple quarters and win the game so they can be time consuming.

Semi-Pro Pro Tip: Play with the tempo set to “CHEW CLOCK” the entire game to get it over with quicker

I completed the Longshot story but haven’t started these challenges yet. I will update this once I have done so but given the amount of time it takes to watch the Longshot story which is required to unlock the Longshot challenges, these aren’t a priority for me.

Tips for Building Your Ultimate Team

Madden Ultimate Team Line-up

Key positions you should target for upgrades will depend on personal preference and the type of offense and defense you run. The one position that should be on the top of your list to upgrade is the center.

Step 1 – Get a Good Center

In Madden 18, the center’s awareness is substituted for the lowest member of your offensive line – it counts twice. In theory, by having a good center with high awareness gives you a smarter, better blocking offensive line even if you have lower rated tackles and guards.

I went with the Dallas Cowboy’s Travis Frederick Power Up Tier 1 Card. You just need to turn in 6 silver cards with a 60-64 OVR rating of and 6 silver cards with a 65-69 OVR rating  for the Dallas Cowboys Team Silver Token.

Travis Frederick

The Travis Frederick Power Up Tier 3 has the highest awareness rating over at Muthead so why not start working towards one of the best center cards currently in the game. It just takes A LOT to power-up the card to Tier 3.

You Don’t NEED an Elite QB

There are plenty of options at QB and you don’t have to spend a ton of coins to get one. If you want to play head-to-head against other human opponents, the game mode is competitive so QB accuracy attributes are not as important as they are in the SIM game mode. Note: I went with the Drew Brees Power Up card because I am a Saints fan so I went against my own advice.

Speed is still King

I already see Bengal’s rookie WR John Ross on most rosters in head-to-head. That’s because his core gold card currently has the highest speed rating in all of Ultimate Team according to Muthead. Who are you gonna cover Ross with at cornerback? The Rod Woodson Legends card currently has the highest speed rating for CB at 90. The Deion Sanders GOAT card comes in at 89. CB might be another place to start working towards a power-up card if you don’t want to spend a ton of coins opening packs.

Do the Daily Objectives

At the initial Ultimate Team screens you will see a section for OBJECTIVES & PROGRESS. Make sure you check these out because you can earn extra coins and items for completing these. You can never have enough coins!

I hope these tips were helpful. Feel free to share anything I may have missed in the comment section below.
