Winning the Super Bowl means the Patriots were already set to have the highest rating in Madden 18. Then just two days into free agency the Patriots traded the New Orleans Saints for Brandin Cooks. Cooks finished the 2016 NFL season with an 86 overall Madden 17 rating and was tied for the 2nd fastest speed rating for wide receivers. The rich get richer and Brady now has a legitimate deep threat receiver in addition to Gronkowski and Edelman. In addition to his Super Bowl rings, Brady is running out of fingers to count his weapons on.
The Fastest WR for the final Madden 17 Roster Update
That’s not all.
Patriots Cornerbacks Improve with signing of Gilmore
The Patriots also signed free agent CB Stephon Gilmore who last played for the Bills. Gilmore finished the Madden 17 season with a 83 overall rating, a nice speed rating of 92 and acceleration rating of 95.
Gilmore more (see what I did there) than makes up for the loss of Logan Ryan as speed tends to be more coveted for cornerbacks in Madden.
Patriots Lose Bennett, Sign Dwayne Allen
The Patriots lost TE Martellus Bennett who signed with the Green Bay Packers. Allen is simply not as good as Bennett so the TE position group is weaker but they still have the highest rated TE in the game with Gronkowski.
What’s Next for the Patriots?
We haven’t even made it to Week 2 of free agency much less the draft. What other surprises and deals does Bellichick have in store? The acquisition of Cooks and Gilmore strengthen an already strong roster. There’s no doubt the Patriots will be the highest rated team in Madden 18 and could possibly be the best team in Madden history.
Bill Bellichick has taken the phrase “No days off” to heart and re-signed Dont’a Hightower to a four year deal after Hightower visited division rival the New York Jets. Meanwhile, Malcolm Butler is scheduled to visit the Saints tomorrow. Even if the Patriots do end up losing Butler, they have retained Hightower and signed Gilmore which bodes well for their defense in Madden 18.
